Educational Activities and Cultural Mission
Cholsamaj starts its activities before 1990. Its main labor is to contextualize and spread educational materials for the multicultural environment of Guatemala; especially, the materials written and designed by members of the Mayan People and directed at Guatemalan society in general.
The mission is to systematize and spread the history, culture, technology, languages, land tenure, and administration of territories of the Mayan People and other national topics such as education and democracy in multinational States. Currently, the entity has published more than 250 own titles, utilizing current technology to spread the millenary Mayan culture.
Core Objectives
- Create, produce and spread educational materials for the knowledge and respect between Guatemalan peoples.
- Systematize and spread the Mayan Culture.
- Promote and develop educational activities and research on governance and civic participation.
- Promote multiculturalism and interculturalism in Guatemalan society.
The vision is a Guatemala with equality of obligations and rights, with equity of opportunities for the persons and peoples that conform it. To support this, Cholsamaj has developed a particular style for materials, including Mayan numbering in the pages, Mayan language in the titles, and dates of the Mayan calendar.
